What can one say about a person whose life ends at the tender age of 16 … a life cut short, a life in it’s prime with so many possibilities. But Mia Waters, at the young age of 16, had already managed to touch so many lives and leave her mark on this world in such a short time.

Mia was born in Perth, Western Australia, but spent much of her childhood in New Jersey, USA. At the age of 10 she returned with her family to Australia to settle on the northern beaches in Sydney. Along with her sisters, Hannah and China, Mia attended The Pittwater House Schools in Collaroy.

She was commencing year 11 when a tumour was discovered in her spinal cord. Even after undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Mia tragically passed away on May 2nd, 2008 from Glioblastoma Multiforme, a rare, aggressive and fatal form of brain cancer.

Mia was an intelligent, energetic, fearless and vivacious young girl who loved adventure and the outdoors. She was an enthusiastic athlete who played many sports but her passion was soccer and she played representative soccer for Manly United FC. Mia was an energetic participator and was a member of most sporting teams at school. She also played the piano.

Mia’s social network spread far and wide and she has brought fun, laughter and adventure to all those she encountered. We have all been touched and enriched forever by her presence in our lives, however brief.
